A little bit about us and our campervans

Gocampervan – northeast campervan hire has been operating close to Newcastle Airport for eight years. We love meeting people from all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, Europe and of course the UK. We are a family business who are passionate about campervan life and pride ourselves on our service.

Having spent thirty years in the travel business taking groups on adventure holidays in Europe and running expeditions across Africa and through the Sahara, we have done our fair share of camping. So..campervan hire seemed an obvious choice for us. The picture on the left shows the expedition vehicle we drove in Africa and the picture on the right shows us stuck in the mud in Zaire on our Trans Africa expedition in our own Landrover.

We owned and loved an old VW campervan years ago but we opted for something a bit more up to date for our hire business. Let us introduce the well designed Toyota Hiace.

The Toyota Hiace although similar to our old VW campervan in size, offers more interior space and a more refined driving experience. The 2.8 litre diesel engine gets you where you want to go without holding up the traffic behind and the power steering, automatic gearbox and high driving position makes easy work of the miles. Our GoCampervans all started life in Japan where they were converted from new and shipped to the UK.

The Toyota Hiace is used all over the world and proven to be a real workhorse.

The Toyota Hiace at work in Africa: A History of Reliability

Toyota Hiace, its name meaning “high performance hard worker,” for over 45 years, has lived up to its name. At first, starting back from the 1960s through the 1980s, the Toyota Hiace was available in various body styles, including passenger and cargo vans, short and long wheelbase versions, and a short-lived cargo truck version. Today’s Hiace has essentially distilled the essence of reliable passenger and cargo transportation into a line of streamlined and straightforward vans. Powered by reliable engines and transmissions with some even equipped with all-wheel drive systems. Toyota Hiace performs admirably in just about any location, whether in her home country, Japan, or exported worldwide, such as those found in South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

If there is any one thing that separates the Toyota Hiace from its competitors it is impeccable history of reliability. Checking reviews of the Toyota Hiace, for example, you’ll find countless stories of Hiace vans pushing 400,000 kilometers without ever needing an engine or transmission rebuild. Of course, this all dates back to the original Toyota Hiace and pretty much all Toyota vehicles, built on the premise that quality construction doesn’t need to be expensive. Many campervan hire companies in Australia and New Zealand use the Toyota Hiace to cope with the long distances and rough roads. The Hiace is therefore an obvious choice of vehicle for a GoCampervan.
